The first troop backpack trip of 2012 will be a camelback from Cuyamaca Rancho State Park into Borego. This trek will be a 17 mile backpack trek over 3 days and 2 nights. Scouts who have previously completed one or more these backpack trips can work to complete their 30-mile and 60-mile Camelback badges.

Trip route: On the first day we will be start along the Sunrise Highway where the trail crosses from Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and goes into Oriflamme Canyon. The second day we will hike through the Butterfield area, cross S-2 in Anza Borrego State Park and take Box Canyon to Blair Valley. The third day will be short hike out of Blair Valley through the Foote and Walker Passes to the entrance of Anza Borrego in Shelter Valley. This trip will cover 17 miles over 3 days. There is an opportunity for younger scouts to camp at Blair Valley and meet the backpack group.
Circle X Ranch Summer Camp • July 22-28
Leaders: Ms. Jones, Mr. Drzal, Mr. Reed
This summer the troop will attend summer camp at Camp Circle X Ranch at Bighorn on the Forest Lawn Scout Reservation near Lake Arrowhead. The camp offers a wide variety of merit badges, including several you don't normally see at summer camps, such as photography, insect study, metal work, sculpture, pulp & paper, and composite materials. They also have a great COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) program for the older scouts and lots of other fun activities. Summer camp is highly recommended for all our scouts, particularly those looking to earn merit badges and/or advance in rank
The cost is approx. $375 per scout for the camp itself (we will evaluate at cost for gas and lunch the first day and adjust as needed as we get closer).
The first payment of $100 is due by the February 13th troop meeting. A second payment of $100 will be due in April, and the final payment will be due in June.
Reminders for those attending summer camp
Periodically check this page for announcements and updates, and pay attention to troop meeting announcements and e-mails from Ms. Jones.
• Scouts must have a full uniform including official BSA pants, socks, uniform shirt with patches, neckerchief, and troop hat. Camp staff will perform regular inspections and scouts must be dressed in a complete uniform. SPL will carry out a uniform inspection at a troop meeting in preparation for camp.
• Please review requirements for selected merit badges before submitting your signup form. Some merit badges require that the scout complete requirements before starting camp merit badge sessions. Do not delay completing prerequisite work as some requirements may take an extended period of time. Scouts may also need to provide proof of having completed other merit badges (for instance, scouts must show that they have completed the First Aid merit badge as the first requirement for the Emergency Preparedness merit badge).
• Scouts should bring a copy of their Totin' Chip and Firem'n Chit cards. This is required to participate in some merit badge sessions or camp activities.
• Scouts should bring their scout book to camp as they may complete certain rank advancement requirements while at camp.
