The Scouting Program

Through scouting, boys learn outdoor skills, assume leadership roles, help to improve their community through service projects, and experience new adventures as they advance through the Boy Scout ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life... and hopefully Eagle. Our troop is operated on a Boy Led/Boy Run scout philosophy, which means that the boys take responsibility for Troop programs, conduct meetings, and plan activities and outings. Scouts are assisted by the Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters (trained adult leaders), and parents, who all offer guidance, teach skills, and provide merit badge counseling. Parents are themselves organized through the Troop's Parent Committee and Assistant Scoutmasters, who meet regularly to provide the structure and program support to make it all work.

Campouts & Treks

Troop 319 plans regular campouts—generally two to three outings per month. Campouts/Treks include canoing around San Diego's Fiesta Island; rock climbing campouts at Joshua Tree National Park; backpacking trips to San Jacinto, San Gorgonio, and local mountain to desert treks; explorations of the Borrego Mud Caves; annual Camporees; and lots more.

Each summer, Troop 319 participates in a fun-filled, week-long summer camp program at a different location from year-to-year. We have traveled to Camp Maluhia in the Hawaiian Island paradise of Maui; visited Camp Kern on Huntington Lake in the High Sierras of California; and periodically voyage to Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island. Summer camps provide a great opportunity for scouts not only to enjoy the Boy Scout Camp experience, but also help them earn a wide range of merit badges, and offer assistance with rank advancement requirements.

Scout Meetings and Activities

Troop meetings are an enjoyable weekly gathering where scouts meet to team-building games, to practice scout skills, to work on advancement or merit badge requirements, and/or other activities of interest to our scouts. The troop plans regular outings, including camping, hiking, and backpacking trips; annual events like camporees and scout fairs; and activities such as swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, star gazing, cookoffs, and community service projects.

Donate to Troop 319

Donations help support our scout program and are always welcome and very much appreciated. Monetary donations can be designated for a specific purpose, such as for equipment and supplies, for a "Campership" that will help send a scout to summer camp, for an Eagle Scout Project for a particular Scout, etc. Or you can provide funds or outdoor equipment for basic troop activities.
